Today’s generation of young athletes face unique challenges that go beyond the playing field. With reduced opportunities for unstructured play, limited physical education in schools, and a more sedentary lifestyle overall, children are not developing the basic athletic skills they once naturally acquired through outdoor play and physical activity.
Research shows that children today are significantly less fit than their peers from 35 years ago. A study by Vandorpe, Vandendriessche, Lefevre, and Pion (2011) highlights this fitness decline, attributing it to factors such as:
Limited time spent playing outside
Reduced physical education in schools
Lifestyle-related conditions like obesity
At Teamworks Sports Performance, we are committed to addressing these challenges head-on by promoting movement, strength, and coordination through our programs. We believe that by providing children with the opportunity to develop their athletic skills in a structured yet fun environment, we can help reverse these trends and foster lifelong physical fitness.
Moreover, studies have demonstrated that children who participate in a variety of sports and movement activities not only improve their physical health but also experience benefits beyond athletics. Singh et al. (2012) found that children who engage in physical activity perform better academically, while research from TNO Kwaliteit van Leven (2008) indicates that active children are more socially engaged. These findings reinforce our belief that athletic development supports overall well-being, both mentally and socially.
Our programs are designed to create well-rounded athletes who can excel in sports and also gain valuable skills that benefit them in everyday life. By building athleticism, flexibility, strength, and coordination, we prepare children for the challenges of life both on and off the field. Furthermore, we are dedicated to teaching these skills in a way that encourages long-term physical activity, leading to healthier, happier individuals in adulthood.
